The Vitthal-Rukmini Temple situated in Maharashtra’s Pandharpur yesterday was decorated with around 7000 mangoes on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated all over the country. Amis country-wide lockdown or restrictions and devastating Covid crisis that India is going through Temple was decorated in special way to mark the auspicious day.
According to sources a businessman hailing from Pune named Vinayak Katchi (Bundela) offered these mangoes to the temple for decoration. The mangoes given were “Hapus” also known as “Alphonso” in English, which widely grown in Maharashtra. Statues of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini were also decorated with the same along with the temple. The mangoes were later distributed among Covid patients wishing them a speedy recovery.
In similar tradition, last year the Vithal-Rukmini temple was decorated with 3100 mangoes last year.
