The Olympian wrestler Sushil Kumar, after absconding for almost three weeks was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday in connection to a murder case of a fellow wrestler, junior national champion Sagar Rana alias Sagar Kumar Dhankad.
A day after the arrest, Delhi Police has found a video recording of the murder which was recorded by Sushil Kumar’s friend on his request. According to the Police Sushil Kumar kept the recording to scare and terrorise other wrestlers. And wanted the video to get viral to make his fear felt in the wrestling community.
“Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community,” said Delhi Police in an official statement to the court.
Wrestler Sagar Kumar Dhankad alias Sagar Kumar was murdered outside chatrasal stadium in a parking lot by Sushil Kumar and his associates over a property dispute on May 4 around midnight. Sushil Kumar and his associates assaulted Sagar Kumar and his 2 friends brutally, out of which Sagar succumbed to his injuries later at night.
Delhi Police issued a look out notice with 1 lakh reward on information leading to his arrest after Sushil Kumar absconded for more than 2, weeks and his whereabouts weren’t found.
