Serum Institute announced the prices of their Covishield vaccine after centre’s decision of the phase 3 of vaccation under which everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible for getting a Jab. They’ve priced it at 400 per dose for state governments and 600 per dose for private hospitals “which is still comparatively lower than the foreign vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna” said The Serum Institute. The centre will continue to get vaccines at 150 per dose.
The price announcement came a day after centre’s official order for the manufacturers to directly sell their 50% vaccines to the states and to continue selling the other 50% to the centre.
Also, the government announced ₹4500 crore aid for the vaccine manufacturers i.e Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech to ramp-up their production in the view of current situation throughout the country. Adar Poonawala, the CEO of Serum Institute said the ramping-up of manufacturing will start immediately and there will be 15-20% more Covishield vaccines in the market by the month end and they will be able to supply over 100million doses per month from July onwards while prioritising India first.
Recently, Poonawala requested the US President Mr. Joe Biden to lift up the export embargos in order to be able to attain more raw materials used in manufacturing the vaccines.
