The CEO of Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla will get ‘Y’ category security by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) the Union government said on Wednesday. The ‘Y’ category security consists of 11 personnel and 1 or 2 commandoes and police personnel.
The decision comes in after Serum Institute’s director of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Prakash Kumar requested security of Adar Poonawalla by writing a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 16th.
The letter consisted of claims that Adar Poonawalla has been getting death threats from various groups regarding the vaccine supplies. “We are working shoulder to shoulder to fight against COVID-19 pandemic with the Government of India under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji” said the letter.
Adar Poonawalla & the Serum Institute recently faced a massive backlash and criticism over its pricing of Covid-19 vaccine (Covishield).
