India’s vaccination programme which started in January 2021 with doses administered to the frontline workers at first and later opened up to the general public from 18 & above in May after the announcement of the 3rd phase. India’s vaccination drive has been slowed down by a whopping 28.7% due to an acute shortage of vaccine doses in the country.

India administered 5.53 crore vaccine doses in May which 28% lower than 7.75 crore vaccine doses administered in April, according to the data available on CoWin. The average of covid Vaccine doses being administered daily has also been sharply reduced from 25.8 lakhs in April to 17.8 lakhs in May. The data is also comes as a big shocker due to the fact that in April only 45 years old and above were allowed to get vaccinated, while in May vaccination programme opened for people between 18-45 years age as well. Since, vaccination programme was expanded doses administered should’ve increased. But currently this isn’t the case in India.

Also, in a sligh improvement India administered around 20lakh vaccine doses per day on an average in the last week of may which is better than 15 lakh average of start and middle of the month May.
