In Solomon Islands a frog as big as a human baby was found by the villagers, who were in a state of shock to the size of the giant frog. Honiara resident Jimmy Hugo photographed the giant frog, where it shows a young boy holding the frog up for the camera. The picture is creating a huge buzz on social media platforms and sparked a new interest in a species that is on a decline in population.
Mr Hugo is the owner of a timber milling operation and he said that mill workers found the frog while hunting for a wild pig back in April. He then shared a photo of the giant frog.
“Where I come from, it’s called bush chicken,” Hugo captioned the picture.
In the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, the Cornufer guppyi frog is also known as “bush chicken” or as the giant webbed frog. It is hunted by the local and often referred as “Prized Meat”.
