Five members of the Delhi University faculty died of Covid-19 in last 6 days.

Five faculty members of the Delhi University inlcuding a HOD (head of department) and a adhoc teacher have succumbed to Covid-19 in last 6 days reported DUTA (Delhi University teachers Association). Aslo, a 24 year old research scholar who has recently submitted his thesis for MPhil died on Saturday due to covid.

According to DUTA (Delhi University teachers Association) 33 faculty members have died due to Covid since March 2021.

“We have lost two assistant professors and a library attendant in the last few days to Covid-19. We are still in a shock” said Rajiv, principal of Deshbandhu College after 2 teachers of the college succumbed to Covid-19.

Daulat Ram College lost 2 of its teachers to covid-19 in just 2 days and addressing this loss, the college’s Principal Savita Roya said “The loss of these two faculty members is an irreplaceable loss to academia”.

The Delhi University has decided to review the DUTWF (Delhi University teachers welfare fund) which helps teachers during the time of the crisis. Under the new policy, teachers who died after March 1, 2021 due to Covid-19 will receive an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakhs.
