The Supreme Court on Tuesday has asked the central government to explain the logic & basis behind the pricing of vaccines and other necessary commodities.
“During the national crisis, Supreme Court cannot be a mute spectator. The role of the Supreme Court is complementary in nature,” the Supreme Court said.
Additionally the Supreme Court has asked all the State Governments to files their replies by Thursday 6pm regarding the health infrastructure (including shortage of oxygen, vaccines and other medical necessities) and the Court the has fixed Friday noon as the day of the hearing.
“The High Courts shall not be restrained in passing any directions,” as they are hearing the cases in their respective states and they know the ground situation better said the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Vaccine pricing for Serum Institute of India produced Covishield is ₹150/dose, ₹400/dose & ₹600/dose for central government, state governments and for private hospitals respectively.
On the other hand Bhart Biotech’s Covaxin is priced at ₹600/dose for centre and ₹1200/dose for state and private hospitals.
