52 vaccine centres forced to shut amid shortage in Mumbai.

Citing shortage of vaccines 52 centres out of 132 vaccine centres werr forced to be closed down in Mumbai on Friday. Mumbai is already suffering from a surge in covid with 7,199 new cases and 72 deaths reported in last 24hours. The civic body BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation) said the current stock of vaccine may only last till Saturday morning.

“Around 50,000 vaccines are expected by the civic body BMC which are being delivered in different batches sizes of at times 16,000 or 50,000. Hence creating a difficulty in its distribution to different vaccine centres” said an official. “The vaccine were delivered to us late by Friday night, so we will be able to inoculate them by Saturday night” he added.

The closure of 52 centre has caused over-crowding at other remaining centres. The queues are now longer and people are required to wait for hours to get a jab. On friday around 48,000 vaccine doses were administered in all of Mumbai. Out of which 1,842 healthcare workers and 3,226 frontline workers were also administered the vaccine doses.
